Hierarchical Nanostructures In article number 2212486, Elisa Moretti, Alberto Vomiero, and co-workers, applied TiO2 hollow spheres with defect-engineered surface as highly efficient photocatalysts. The structure results in strongly confined solar light, defects boost the photogeneration of active charges for photocatalytic processes. Advanced spectroscopies revealed presence oxygen vacancies bulk Ti3+ centers, which enabled strong photodegradation a target drug (Ciprofloxacin) under simulated sunlight.

A facile and straightforward approach is developed for the construction of graphene-based hollow spheres. An electron rich sodium-ammonia solution is used to effectively restore the π-conjugation of graphene. The hollow spheres exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity towards oxygen reduction without catalyst deactivation.
